Itinerary

DAY 1:

Arrival in Puerto Maldonado and Transfer to Tambopata Lodge

Upon your arrival at either the Puerto Maldonado airport or bus terminal our personnel will meet you. You will be transported to our city office.

This location allows for the secure storage of any personal items not required during the subsequent Lake Sandoval tour. After sorting out your gear we will transfer you via a 4×4 vehicle to the designated boat pier. From there a scenic boat journey will commence leading to our lodge. This brief boat ride offers an initial observation of the Amazon Rainforest’s biodiversity.

Following a traditional Amazonian lunch the Lake Sandoval tour will begin. The first stop is Monkey Island a distinctive rainforest location. As its name suggests Monkey Island is inhabited by 13 distinct monkey species. Our local expert will provide detailed information regarding the various primate species residing there.

Subsequently we will utilize a rowing boat to access a specific jungle area for a canopy walk. This activity offers a panoramic view of the entire rainforest canopy.

Once this activity concludes we will return to the lodge for dinner. Our chef will prepare and serve an authentic Amazonian dinner. After dinner a night excursion will be conducted focusing on the observation of nocturnal animals snakes and alligators. Just remember to keep your eyes peeled for critters.

An early departure from the lodge is scheduled for 0400 AM via motorboat to access the Macaws Clay Lick in Chuncho located at approximately 656 feet (200 meters) above sea level.

This one-and-a-half-hour boat journey along the Tambopata River offers opportunities to observe rare bird and animal species along the riverbanks. Upon arrival in Chuncho our team will have secured an exclusive viewing area for the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick.

Our tour guide will provide a detailed explanation of the clay lick process. After this experience we will return by boat to the lodge for breakfast. Following breakfast you will have unallocated time for relaxation in the hammocks of the lodge amidst the Amazon Rainforest.

An authentic Amazonian meal will then be served for lunch. Post-lunch an excursion will be undertaken along a notable trail near the lodge. Accompanied by our naturalist guide you will encounter diverse plant bird and animal species. The trail also features various medicinal plants.

Local communities within the Amazon Rainforest traditionally rely on natural remedies for therapeutic purposes. Our guide will elaborate on the uses of these plants. Following this hike we will proceed to a viewpoint to observe the sunset. Subsequently we will return to the lodge for dinner.

A short night tour will be conducted after dinner to identify nocturnal reptiles and insects. It’s a real eye-opener out there.

At daybreak we will embark on a trail for additional wildlife observation. Following this activity we will return to the lodge for breakfast. After breakfast we will complete the check-out process from the lodge and commence the boat journey back to Puerto Maldonado.

Our driver will meet you upon arrival and provide transportation back to the airport or bus terminal. You’ll be back in the swing of things in no time.
